Living in arguably one of the most beautiful places in the world, isolated in the middle of a vast ocean, Hawaii's residents understand the importance of preserving their unique environment and the value of self-reliance. Kaheawa Wind is building on this tradition of self-sufficiency; harnessing Maui's wind to provide a renewable, local energy source. Currently, the 20 GE 1.5 megawatt turbines generate enough clean, non-polluting power to meet 9% of Maui's total electricity needs during peak hours and up to 30% during non-peak hours. The amount of energy generated is the equivalent to saving the island of Maui 600 barrels of oil per day.
